Our Origins

My Brother and I are both Veterans of the US Army and of the conflicts in the middle east in Iraq and Afghanistan. While I called it quits after almost 6 and half years, he went on to retire. Thing is he only survived 2 years of retirement. It wasn't the physical wounds of combat that endured him but the invisible ones that haunted him. I distinctly remember 6 separate occasions on which we spoke about friends who decided to take their own lives. He didn't didn't fair any better and try as I could, I couldn't help him. He drank himself to the point of death and in the midst of the global pandemic, COVID took care of the rest.

The one thing I can savor is that he lived long enough to see my first son, but it hurts me to the core that he won't be here to tell my sons the stories that only he could tell. Towards the end, my brother found a fascination with old Norse Ethos and I know he went there to fight alongside the brothers he lost in war and after it. Valkyrie Visions was born from this Norse ethos, inspired by the resilience, honor, and legacy of those who have fought and fallen.

But my origins in photography began much earlier. Long before the Army, I was drawn to the creative arts, a passion sparked as a child, sketching, inspired by my brother’s old notebooks and dreaming up stories. When I got my first camera in high school, it became my way of making sense of the world. Photography let me capture the fleeting, the beautiful, and the chaotic, freezing moments that might otherwise slip away.

Through Valkyrie Visions, I’ve combined these two journeys: the influence of my brother’s legacy and my lifelong pursuit of creativity. This space is a testament to the things that move us, inspire us, and remind us of the stories worth telling.
